- A JOURNEY TO THE CENTRE OF THE EARTH - A Graphic Novel
DetailsWhen Professor Von Hardwigg and his nephew Henry discover a mysterious parchment, little do they know that it will change their lives forever. After many hours of studying the manuscript, and a great deal of painstaking research, they finally decipher the hidden code. It dates back to the sixteenth century, and is written by an Icelandic philosopher, who claims to have found a passage to the centre of the Earth. Is it a hoax? Or is it the greatest scientific discovery of the day? There is only one way for them to find out. And so begins an adventure where the two men, accompanied by their guide Hans Bjelke, set out to climb Mount Sneffels. On reaching the top of the mountain, they search for the crater that will supposedly take them to the centre of the Earth. The promise of finding a subterranean fantasy world, filled with prehistoric life forms and mythical monsters, drives them on. Will they really reach the centre of the Earth, or is it all a myth?ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Jules Gabriel Verne was born in Nantes, France on February 8, 1828. Over the following 77 years, he became both a prodigious writer and a creator of characters that came to be known throughout the world. His work continues to live on well beyond his death and he is known by many as the father of modern science fiction. His stories revolved around the use of technologies of the day, such as in his novels Five Days in a Balloon and Around the World in Eighty Days. However, what made Verne really stand out were the flights of fancy he took with regard to the potential advances in technology. His fantastic creations were based, in many respects, on a keen understanding of science and the way it was moving forwards.ADAPTED BY : Lewis Helfand was born on 27th April 1978 in Philadelphia and grew up in nearby Narberth, Pennsylvania. Although interested in cartoons and animation from a young age, by the time he was twelve Lewis s focus had turned to writing. After completing high school, he remained in the Philadelphia area with the intention of pursuing a degree in English. Four years later, with a political science degree and a passion for comic books, Lewis began working for local publishers by proofreading books and newspaper articles. By the age of twenty four, Lewis had been editing phonebooks for a year and a half and felt no closer to his lifelong goal of writing comic books. One day he decided to quit his job. Lewis then spent the next two months working day and night to write and draw his first comic book, Wasted Minute, the story of a world without crime where superheroes are forced to work regular jobs. To cover the cost of self-publishing, he began working odd jobs in offices and restaurants and started exhibiting at local comic-book conventions. With the first issue well received, he was soon collaborating with other artists and released four more issues over the next few years. At the same time, Lewis continues to work outside the field of comic books as a freelance writer and reporter for a number of national print and online publications. He has covered everything from sports and travel to politics and culture for magazines such as Renaissance, American Health and Fitness, and Computer Bits.ABOUT THE ARTIST: Having received professional training from the N S Dhammi Art Group, Vinod is a highly experienced artist who has created more than 400 comics for the Indian comics industry.
