Details" in these latitudes twilight does not exist. The change from day to night is as quick and as absolute as the change from life to death." The legend of King Solomon's diamond mines had lured countless treasure hunters into the depths of uncharted Africa- not one has survived. But that does not deter Allan Quantermain.Charged with finding a missing explorer, Quantermain embarks on the perilous journey to the mines. With courage in his heart and an ancient map inscribed with blood as his guide, he is determined to succeed. But the map does not mark the savage beasts, devilry, dark arts and bloody battles that await him...ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Henry Rider Haggard was born in Norfolk in 1856. As a young child, Haggard's father saw him as the family dunce. Consequently he was not sent to a good public school, like his brothers, but instead was educated at a London day school. In 1875, disappointed by his son's progress, Haggard's father sent him to work for the then Lieutenant-Governor of Natal, Sir Henry Bulwer. Haggard was to spend the next six years of his life in South Africa and it was this period that provided the initial inspiration and material for his future novels. Haggard wrote 'King Solomon Mines' in just six weeks. It became an instant bestseller and is regarded as the genesis of the Lost World literary genre. It is also said that the character of Allan Quantermain was the inspiration behind George Lucas' and Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones character. Haggard was knighted in 1912.
