His novels are originally written in Japanese.His other works include Hokago, Himitsu, Henshin, Yogisha X No Kensin, Gen’ya, Yochimu, Seijo No Kyusai, and Byakuyako.He was born in Osaka, Japan. He worked as an engineer at Nippon Denso Co., and started writing novels during his spare time. In 1985, when he was 27 years of age, he won the Edogawa Rampo Award for his novel Hokago (After School). In addition to mystery novels, he also writes story books and essays for children, although with a different writing style. Some of his novels have been adapted for films and TV drama series.
