Bal Gangadhar Kher, first Premier of Bombay State, was a solicitor, scholar and social worker by choice and a politician by necessity. He was chosen to lead the Congress Legislative Party, a singularly difficult task which he fulfilled with flair and distinction. Bombay Province under him was reputed to have one of the finest administrations in the country. This book is his story. ABOUT THE AUTHOR : Prof. Girish Joshi, M.A. in Marathi and Sanskrit, is a professor at the Acharya Marathe College and a part-time professor at SIES. He has translated into Hindi and Marathi several books such as Amma by Mehrunnisa Pervez, Saripat by Vasudha Wagh, and Spiritual Masters: Sai Baba by Sonavi Desai. He has written numerous articles in periodicals such as Kadamb, Hemangi, Vasa, and Sai Leela to name a few. He has also presented a research paper on Moropantanchi 108 Ramayane at an international conference in Mumbai. M. V. Kamath (1921-2014), eminent writer, columnist and journalist, authored over 45 books. He started his career in journalism in 1946. He was the correspondent at the United Nations for the Press Trust of India, and in Bonn, Paris and Washington for the Times of India. He was also editor of Free Press Journal, and later of the Illustrated Weekly of India. A prolific writer, Mr. Kamath is the author of numerous biographies and books, which include The Pursuit of Excellence, B. G. Kher: The Gentleman Premier, Sai Baba of Shirdi: A Unique Saint, Nani A. Palkhivala: A life, and Narendra Modi: The Architect of a Modern State. In 2004, Mr. Kamath was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India. He was chairman of Prasar Bharathi, and a director of the Manipal Institute of Communications.
