ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Guy de Maupassant, in full Henry-René-Albert-Guy de Maupassant, (born on 1850 in Francedied in 1893, Paris), French naturalist writer of short stories and novels who is by general agreement the greatest French short-story writer. Maupassant also wrote under several pseudonyms such as Joseph Prunier, Guy de Valmont, and Maufrigneuse (which he used from 1881 to 1885). He had published more than 300 short stories, six novels, three travel books, and his only volume of verse.
