Agriculture can be defined as management of the land for purposes of producing plant and animal products of satisfy human needs. It is both a way of life and an economic activity. Traditionally the geographical study of agriculture was regarded as a sub branch of Cultural Geography or Economic Geography with strong links to cognate subject areas in Economics and Sociology. More recently Agricultural Geography has emerged as a multi-faceted field of inquiry in its own right.
Agricultural Geography deals with the spatial distillation of agricultural activity. The agricultural landscape of any region is however, complex and cannot be comprehended easily. Since the geo-climatic and socioeconomic conditions vary from place to place, there is seat diversity in the agricultural activities. The basic aim of agricultural models is to simplify a complex agricultural mosaic to make it more amenable to investigation. Thus, agricultural models are tools which allow hypotheses and theories to be tested. In brief, these are predictive devices.
This book is an introduction to the study of Agricultural Geography which will be of interest to the student as well as those following courses and Universities and Colleges. It aims to show that a wide range of factors explain how agricultural practices differ from place to place.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Rahul B. Nagpal is an experienced Researcher and a seasoned Teacher since 2000 having ten years teaching experience at Post Graduation level. Nagpal has written extensively on agriculture and allied problems. Besides more than one-dozen research papers in different journals of repute, five books on different dimensions of agriculture science go to his credit. He has a special interest in active learning and alternative teaching methods. He has worked with various field of agriculture and has participated in many national and international conferences.
