The Wedding, written by Nicholas Sparks, tells the endearing tale of a couple, who after many years of marriage have grown apart, but must rekindle their love in time for their daughter’s wedding.
Sparks’s The Wedding is the follow up to The Notebook, which featured Allie and Noah Calhoun’s bittersweet romance.
Wilson Lewis, the Calhoun’s son-in-law, is the protagonist of The Wedding. Wilson is a successful estate attorney by trade. He has dedicated his life to providing for his wife and children. Although he is fantastic at negotiating contracts, he is not that great at expressing his emotions. As the date of his daughter’s wedding nears, Wilson suddenly realizes that over the years, he and his wife, Jane, have drifted apart. As a result of this, his thirty-year marriage has soured, and the romance has disappeared. How will Wilson reconquer his wife’s heart? Will he be able to do so in time?
Even though Wilson is unsure about his wife’s feelings for him, he is aware that his love for Jane has only intensified and deepened with time. His in-laws’ romance inspires and guides him to make changes in his married life. Noah, Wilson’s father-in-law, teaches him how to become the husband that Jane deserves.
With the date of their 30th wedding anniversary and daughter’s wedding fast approaching, Wilson busies himself with the wedding preparations. Jane is surprised by Wilson’s sudden involvement in domestic matters, which she believes is quite unlike him. With hope in hand, Wilson is determined to show Jane that he is a changed man.
The Wedding was published in 2003.
